Satadru Sovan Banduri, born on December 2, 1973, in West Bengal and currently based in New Delhi, is a renowned multi-disciplinary artist whose work boldly addresses themes like restricted sexuality, consumerism, and socio-cultural hybridity within the Indian context. Satadru is known for his fusion of traditional and modern techniques, making him a pioneering figure in digital media and contemporary art. His status as a Fulbright Research Scholar at the University of California, Santa Cruz, further underscores his significant contributions to the art world.
Satadru's recent series powerfully interweaves themes of ecological destruction and gender dynamics in visual arts, showcasing vibrant, bold paintings that highlight the crisis of species extinction. His non-linear narrative approach depicts vanished and endangered flora and fauna, prompting reflection on humanity’s invasive role in the global ecosystem. He is the founder of Hexxyduxxybox, a dedicated performance art platform, and the creator of the International Behavioral Art Festival in India. His recent works use vivid colours to tackle pressing global issues like ecological degradation and gender norms, encouraging audiences to reflect on these challenges. Beyond visual art, Satadru is an experimental performer and installation artist recognised for his innovative use of light and digital media. As an Ambassador for the Worldwide Peace Marker Project, his influence extends globally. His impressive career includes 11 solo exhibitions in Mexico, Korea, Vietnam, and the USA, six museum exhibitions, 25 residencies, six biennales, seven art fairs, and 54 art performances in various international locations.
